Performs as advertised
23 Jan 2008 @ amazon.com
This is a great book for budding web designers. Most of the other books I’ve read try to teach you everything about Photoshop and, for most new users, that’s just too much. This book focuses on the essentials for web use and provides files along with its quicktime tutorials. The movies aren’t too long - the speaker has a pleasant voice (although she does keep saying "Ayng gonna" instead of "I’m going to"), doesn’t joke around, and takes you matter-of-factly through the exercises. The introduction to the workspace was extremely useful - I no longer feel lost when I open Photoshop. Even if I don’t know what every option means, I know which ones I really need and I have reference books for the rest. Also, finally I GET what layers are and how to work with them. I don’t click futilely on my screen anymore!
Good book but misses some basics
04 Nov 2007 @ amazon.com
Generaly a good book but most of the examples start with giving you photoshp files broken up into different "layers". However the book misses how to take a photo and start to divde it up into its components to work on it. The instructor of the course I was takin just said that ws for a basic photoshop course not a photoshop for the web course. Perhaps but that is a basic function of using the software that is missing from the book. This is good for how to use photoshop for the web but you will need a 2nd general introduction to photoshop as well
Opinion on shipping is HORRIBLE! STAY AWAY from AMAZON!!! Book is great, though.

I ordered this book for a class I had, had to study on it.
I ordered it on 8/23/2007 paying to have it shipped next day, the seller is NOT an amazon merchant but AMAZON itself!
I never received it, I had to call and re-order it in order to get it.
I received it in the middle of September!
The book itself is very nice and user friendly with a lot of exercises to let you practice what you study in the chapter. It is very well designed and it lets you really understand Photoshop for the web.
The only problem with it was AMAZON did NOT honor the original purchase nor the shipping!
I’m all about practice

I like reading, but still I have a hard time with textbooks, learning from examples like this book is so much easier and interactive. If you want a very detailed book...you won’t get that much detail; if you want to learn basics and a little bit more this is just perfect. I like this book.
Wonderful

I haven’t designed a website in 5 years and was looking to get started on doing them again, but needed a refresher. I didn’t have any of my notes or books from school, needless to say, and it would have been ancient anyway. But this book was exactly what I needed. It was easy to follow and read. The step-by-step instructions and pictures were essential to making the book an easy read and understandable. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to make websites and has a basic understanding of photoshop and other applications.
Solid purchase

This book is good at showing you how to make images ready for the web. It’s not for first time photoshop users, but if you need tips and tricks for web design, it’s a good book to have.
outstanding training for the beginner
30 Mar 2007 @ amazon.com
After 11 chapters, it’s carefully written/organized, ’crystal clear’ (as another said), visually interesting to read (not tiresome like other training books) and the movie tutorials give perfect reinforcement to the reading and exercises. A great confidence builder if you’re new to Photoshop. Tanya is a first-rate teacher and exceptional communicator. Her approach is simple but not simplistic. I need to read more of her books!
Great book for learning Photoshop techniques for the web
12 Mar 2007 @ amazon.com
I (like most people I’m sure) typically just dive into a program and through a combination of using the application help and Google searches eventually figure out how to do what I want. Well for Photoshop this was proving harder than I thought there are just too many options and quite frankly I’m a software developer not a graphic artist. I needed a way to quickly get up to speed on creating graphics for my web sites, this book was a big help.
It covers the basics such as tool locations, colors, layers and fonts. It then goes into optimizing images for the web, creating web backgrounds, navigation items (buttons, menus, etc) and transparent images. Plus it covers animation and integrating with other Adobe products.
The only thing it did not cover that I wished it had was creating page headers like the header on this site [...], but with the other stuff I learned I was able to create one for my [...] site(you can judge how I did). I did ding the score 1 point for this omission.
All in all it’s a book well worth getting if you are starting out with Photoshop.
Good book

This book is definitely on for web designers. I can say that the information is vast and if you know everything in the book, then you have some knowledge. Although I felt that it didn’t really teach me much and just didn’t connect with it for some reason. But that’s not to say it’s a bad book.
This is a fabulous book!
17 Aug 2006 @ amazon.com
I bought this book several months ago, but only recently found the time to spend a little time with it. This is a fabulous book! It is impeccibly well-organized and presents in a crystal-clear manner the topics that are the most important. Each major section of each chapter includes an exercise for which all of the necessary files are readily available on the included CD. Each exercise is explained (in the usual crystal-clear fashion) in the book, and by going through the steps that it involves yourself, using the supplied images, you quickly develop a solid understanding of all of the essential ideas that are covered in the corresponding section of the book.
Great PhotoShop book!
27 Jul 2006 @ amazon.com
Photoshop CS2 is the pretty much standard in web graphic design and digital photograph editing now and is a great tool to know. The author assumes no prior knowledge on knowing Photoshop or any other graphic editing tool. So if you’re a novice (like me) or have used other graphic editing tools in the past, this is a great book for you. The other thing that is great about this book is that each chapter includes video tutorials from [...] as well as exercises to work on that review each topic covered. Throughout each chapter there beautiful, color screenshots of what is covered as well.
The book covers the basics first with an introduction to the interface (menus, palettes, toolbox), how to organize assets, color theory and manipulation, layers, type fonts and optimizing images. The rest of the book goes into useful topics that really can help you in web design such as creating web backgrounds, designing navigation, create transparent graphics, image slicing and creating rollovers.
For someone like me who does not have a graphic design background at all and can barely draw stick figures, this really helped me understand PhotoShop and use it to create some nice looking graphics for my web sites that I create. If you have any type of design skills this book will really help you take your skills to the next level.
A must buy!
Excellent resource
10 Mar 2006 @ amazon.com
I had to purchase this book for a class I’m taking and the book is incredibly helpful. It has easy demonstrations to follow--which really help if you’re a "hands on" learner, as I am. The book comes with a CD-ROM that has files you can use for the demonstrations as well as demo movies that you can watch. I also had no previous Photoshop experience and still had no problem. I highly recommend it!
Adobe Photoshop CS2 HOT

Absolutely the most informative book I’ve ever seen written on software education. Hands on Training plus the DVD movies leads you through each and every project. I can’t praise it enough.
Photoshop beginners who want to design for the web.
12 Oct 2005 @ amazon.com
This book, like must books from Lynda.com, is very easy to follow with lots of excellent screenshots and helpful supporting exercises. The content is well arranged and covers both ImageReady and Photoshop CS2. The focus is on web design so if you plan to use Photoshop for anything other than web design dont go for this book. If your focus is the web this title is perfect as it covers those features of Photoshop most relevant to the design of websites. One criticism is that the design methodology in some parts is a lttle dated. The embedding of too much page and link text in images reduces a web pages chances of good search engine rankings, hence it would be better to present methods supporting the use of text based navigation using CSS, but this is my only criticism. I find that just about anything from Lynda.com is excellent as a learning resource.
Excellent Book
10 Aug 2005 @ amazon.com
I’ve read the first five chapters, and I’m really enjoying this book. It covers a lot of the new features in version CS2, such as being able to see an example of a font in the list of fonts and layer comps (snapshots of layer configurations). The book’s focus is the web, and that’s what I do all day. There are a few typos, but the books is so thorough that its extremely easy to spot them (ignore them). The videos on the CD are great and supplement the material nicely. I’m very impressed with this book. I don’t read many from cover to cover, but this one is worth it.
