Photoshop cs in the classroom
24 Oct 2008 @ amazon.com
Teaches the basics, if you don’t have a desktop with Photoshop it won’t help you much. Excellent for taking a course in college with.
Instant disappointment.
27 Aug 2008 @ amazon.co.uk
This book was an immediate disappointment as it is in black and white. Colour and colour correction is vital in an application such as Photoshop, to to sell a black and white book on the subject seems ridiculous.
Good for beginner - intermediate

Very good tutorial step by step instructions for Photoshop. I was an intermediate user, and this has solidified my practice, and answered some questions I had about best practice. Comes with CD, perfect for anyone who wants to get started or brush up on skills.
a bit disappointed

I was so looking forward to mastering this program with the help of this book/cd lessons. But there is a problem with the cd, it does not have all the same lessons on the cd as in the book??!! I am now on lesson 5 with no clue how to learn from this chapter. The lesson on the cd is not the same one used in the book under lesson 5. I guess between learning from the book/interent/and searching thur both hopefully I’ll learn this. I guess there is no way to contact the author, there is more than one lesson that is messed up in the cd compared to the book. If your not use to working in photograph programs..(like me)..I would not buy this book.
Way to many problems with the cd/book.
Great book to use for Photoshop CS
27 Oct 2007 @ amazon.com
Photoshop CS is a very powerful program and has tons of features. I really like the CS Classroom in a Book. With the use of the included CD the book lead me in a step by step procedure to learn about the features of Photoshop CS. The CD includes projects to work on while I am going through the tutorial lessons. At times, though, the book does assume that you know some of the ways to do some things. I, then, needed to experiment to see how it is done or where to find the feature mentioned. This is not all bad because the searching process is a good learning process. This book is a great way to learn to use Photoshop CS
A step-by-step photoshop guide
06 Oct 2007 @ amazon.com
I think this is an extraordinary book for learning photoshop. I had to purchase this as my textbook for school but i would say that anyone should buy it to learn photoshop. It gives step-by-step instructions to numerous projects which are included in a cdRom in the back of the book. If you’re learning CS it’s the perfect learning tool.
Had to look online for what I wanted to do
15 Aug 2007 @ amazon.com
I thought this would be a good book to learn Photoshop with because it came from the software maker. Unfortuately this was not the case. By following the book’s instructions, I was not able to add a simple border to an image. I ended up doing a Google search from which I found the instructions on an online forum. As it turned out the Adobe book had left out a step of how to select the image. (You can’t just click on the image) So, as a result of this missing step, the menu item I needed was grayed out so I couldn’t add the border. Also, the pictures in the book are not in color, they are black & white only. This makes it difficult to figure out which tool bar icon they are trying to get you to go to.
I just bought another Photoshop book because this one is useless.
great book

Don’t Buy It Without the CD

If you buy used, be sure the CD is included as it is essential to following the lessons. I am ordering a second copy, new, so I will have the CD.

I read this book translated to the portuguese. This book is great in size. The lessons are good. The main problem of this book are the photos.Almost all of them are B&W.This book is good, but the photos are weak.

Super book for A Beginner
21 Oct 2006 @ amazon.co.uk
I would advise any beginner or intermediate user to buy this book because it is very thorough and easy to understand.I have looked at other books on the market but nothing touches this.
PC & MAC compatible lessons disk included.BUY IT.
Fantastic for beginners
27 Jul 2006 @ amazon.com
I bought this with a very extensive working knowledge of Windows and other software packages but with no knowledge of Photoshop. I was keen not to do what I have done with all other programmes and just ’work it out as I go along’ because you can only work out about 10% and miss out of lots of great features.
This book, from lesson one, makes you say to yourself ’Oh that’s clever’. It’;s easy step by step approach is very straight forward and not patronising.
I think this book is the key to learning this amazing piece of software properly
Go for it!!

All illustrations are Black & White !
19 Apr 2006 @ amazon.com
I have just received my copy. I have not read it yet, just looked
at it casually and to my horror I found that all illustrations
are Black & White except for a few pages in the middle as in
dictionaries published 40 years ago when color was too expensive.
Shame to Adobe. How can anyone appreciate Photoshop capabilities?
This fact is not clearly mentioned in the book description
and is barely understood from the contents of another review.
Brilliant

A powerful tutorial for a powerful program
16 Feb 2006 @ amazon.com
The Adobe Creative Team consistently produces the most powerful tutorials for Adobe products, and their manual for Adobe Photoshop CS is no exception. They are always well organized with clearly explained, excellent, and practical excercises.
As a professional Photoshop trainer, I still rely on these manuals to bring me up to date on the newest features in new releases of the software. The learning experience is greatly enhanced by working through actual excercises and provides an understanding of how and when features can be used for a personal creative approach.
A word of warning-Photoshop is an extremely powerful program and both the software and the manual can be extremely overwhelming for those who have had little experience with computer graphics. Anyone wanting or needing to use Photoshop, but finding the self teaching approach daunting, I highly recommend some type of classroom training. But even in this setting Adobe Photoshop CS Classroom in a Book will provide an excellent source for the practical application of the program.

A great learning experience. I now understand how and why some techniques work. This is helping me to see how I can use them in my own work.
Exciting, Excellent learning material
13 Aug 2005 @ amazon.com
My most interesting class this term. The book is full of information and very helpful. You can teach yourself just off of reading this material.
Excellent buy.
Great start.
29 Jul 2005 @ amazon.com
I found this very helpful being totally new to Photoshop and not very accomplished in any other photo package. I tried Dummies and found it confusing but this book is clear and the lessons take you through various bits step by step. Just a word of warning - don’t be tempted to buy through market place unless you research your supplier. I ended up with very battered indian edition which looked like a photocopy. The book is an excellent starting place and together with the ’Photoshop Bible’ can give you all you need to start from scratch and take it as far as you want to go.

This explains 90% of photoshop’s functions and abilities. The other 10% comes with practice and experience. I highly reccommend it.
Steady Pace

I’m normally suspicious of image books published in black & white, but the lack of colour in no way detracts from the purpose of this book. The lessons guide you through all the tools of photoshop cs in a precise and measured way that make no assumptions of prior knowledge. The accompanying CD contains all the images for the lessons and often have useful "end" images that you can compare your work with. I have made astonishing progress with this very complex and versatile programme.

This book is absolutely essential to those who are new to the Photoshop CS software. The lessons contained on the CD-ROM are easy to follow and teach all the skills needed to get a good grasp of working within Photoshop. The layout of the lessons is also well structured staring with the basics and working up to more advanced techniques.

An excellent book with practical tutorials. This type of book often leads the reader through a process, leaving him/her none the wiser at the end - the result was acheived but why, how? With this book you do learn. I just wish I had the artistic ability to put it all into practice....

Book falls apart literally
15 Mar 2005 @ amazon.com
I found that by lesson nine the pages were falling out of the book. At $45 it should not fall apart that easily.
I thought the end projects were often simplistic. But it does go through several of the new features. I wasn’t impressed with the depth of the book.
Also there were a lot of here put this in your picture, and you are done, but no how do I do that piece that you are haing me put in. Or set this at 50% but not why they chose 50% or what other options could be used for the same picture to get different variations.
And I am really annoyed that it is falling apart. Adobe should have done better.
Good for beginners
14 Feb 2005 @ amazon.com
PhotoShop cs classroom in a book provides new users of PhotoShop good step by step lessons and will help a user build a good PhotoShop foundation. The book covers the more basic functions of PhotoShop but does not go into some of the more detailed aspects of PhotoShop that experienced users would be looking for. It also does not really explore how to use it in conjunction with other Adobe products like Illustrator or Go Live. Those that are trying to learn how to build web pages or design ads will be disappointed by this. Those that are more advanced users of PhotoShop will be disappointed. The book never really states intended PhotoShop user ability level but it is mostly for the beginner to intermediate level user.
Good for beginners, frustrating for intermediate/advanced
25 Jan 2005 @ amazon.com
I’ve been working with Photoshop for a few years now, but I was self-taught. When I got CS, I decided to work through a course book to catch up on anything I was missing.
I did not get as much out of this book as I hoped. It really is aimed at the newbie who wants to create & edit projects ASAP, with little explanation surronding the tools they’re using.
For example, you’re directed to go to a tool in the Filter menu, check off these two boxes and enter 70% here, then click ok. There’s little explanation for why you’d want to check those boxes, or why you’d enter 70 and not 38.
I think this is a good beginner’s course, especially for someone who will take the time to go beyond what’s presented in the book, and play with the tools to figure out what they do.
Not what I expected
21 Jan 2005 @ amazon.com
This wasn’t really a classroom in a book. It didn’t guide me like a class & that is what I expected. Little disappointed with my first purchase in this series.
